How to Prepare for the IOE Entrance Exam

IOE preparation works best as a repeatable cycle: learn a concept, solve focused questions, review errors, revisit weak chapters and test the full syllabus under time pressure.

Build your IOE entrance study plan

Begin with a diagnostic test and the official syllabus. Divide chapters into strong, developing and weak groups. Give weak high-mark chapters the most study time, while using short spaced reviews to protect strengths.

  1. Weeks 1–2: repair foundations and prepare a compact formula/error notebook.
  2. Weeks 3–5: complete chapter-wise previous-year questions and timed topic drills.
  3. Weeks 6–7: alternate full mock tests with focused correction days.
  4. Final week: revise formulas, common traps and past errors; avoid learning large new chapters.

Subject-wise preparation strategy

Do not allocate time only by preference. The 50/40/30/20 mark distribution should influence your weekly schedule, but your accuracy data should decide the final balance.

  • Mathematics: prioritize algebra, calculus, coordinate geometry and fast, checked calculation.
  • Physics: connect formulas to assumptions, units, diagrams and limiting cases.
  • Chemistry: combine concise factual revision with numerical practice in physical chemistry.
  • English: practice grammar, vocabulary, phonetics and timed reading comprehension regularly.

Preparing in one month

With one month remaining, breadth and correction matter more than perfect notes. Use the first two weeks for high-yield chapter revision and focused questions, the third week for mixed sets, and the final week for full mocks plus light revision.

Protect sleep and maintain a consistent exam-time routine. A tired final-week sprint often loses more marks through reading and calculation errors than it gains through extra coverage.
